Heroes Wood

This is a project to create a WW1 centenary woodland within Debdale Park to commemorate the involvement of Mancunians in the First World War. It was developed with the involvement of local schools and residents. Plans to plant 100 large English oak and hazel trees will create an immediate impact. A new wheelchair friendly footpath will be installed leading to the heart of the woodland, where there will be a memorial seating feature and space to hold commemoration events. The site will be enclosed by a beautiful red poppy border. School children, ex-service men and women, Friends of Debdale Park, and local residents were involved in planting the woodland and the poppies.
